Bank Management
You can use the member bet sheet that is provided for every meeting where you bet to win a target amount on eligible races. The strategy for this sheet is outlined on the spreadsheet. Some punters prefer a different approach. The approach outlined is one commonly employed by seasoned punters.
Bank Roll
Assume a starting bank of 500 units.
Unit size is up to you, only allocate what you can afford. A 500-unit bank comprised of $5 units would be a total bank of $2,500. A 500-unit bank comprised of $100 units would be $50,000.
Your bank size needs to be sufficient to withstand the inevitable run of outs that even the sharpest of punters have to endure. This doesn't mean have a bank total that you can't afford. It DOES mean make your units size appropriate and something you are comfortable with and can afford to lose.
Example, using a 500 unit-bank where each unit is worth $5, total bank = $2500.
Having a betting strategy for Hong Kong racing is pivotal to managing your bank roll.
Keep a record of all bets** you place.
Selecting and calculating your bets
I generally use the bet sheet to calculate bet size, rather than just bet the horses in rank order.
I also don't necessarily bet overlays. The RTG odds on the bet sheet are early odds.
In the example below, I want to back Righteous Arion to make a profit of $50 (circled in red).
I have entered the available fixed odds price of $5.50 (circled) and typed 1 in the include cell. The recommended bet size is $11.11 (to profit $50).
You can include multiple horses by typing additional 1's in the include box. The words No Bet will appear in red if the total outlay exceeds 120% of the target amount.
Limit your risk
Betting races would typically involve an outlay of between 0 and 3.5 units. This might be comprised of win and exotic bets.
A meeting typically would have a total outlay of 10 - 20 units bet. Sometimes less.
Record exotic plays and win place bets separately.
